Endangered Animals At The National Zoo Show Odd Behavior Before Earthquake

Shortly before the August 23, 2011 earthquake hit along the eastern coast of the United States, many of the animals at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. behaved strangely. Some people say that the animals predicted the rare 5.8 earthquake. Many people believe animals to be highly sensitive and suspect they have a sixth sense that can predict danger before it happens.

Among the endangered animals in distress at the National Zoo were tigers, gorillas, and flamingos. Some of the animals huddled together. Some moved to higher ground; while others made crying sounds and other peculiar noises.

The Giant Pandas were cool. The 5.8
earthquake didn't seem to faze them.
After the quake was over, most of the animals returned to their normal behavior. Then, there were some animals who were unfazed by the entire event. The giant pandas seemed to take it all in stride.

What Is Your Favorite Endangered Animal?

Many of our animal friends are endangered. I personally never thought much about endangered animals until a few years ago. Prior to that time, my favorite animals were horses which are not really considered endangered. The thing that changed it all is a movie. Yes, a movie. I saw the movie Duma and fell head over heels in love with Cheetahs. They became my most favorite animals of all.

I highly recommend the movie or DVD, Duma for anyone who loves animals. The movie about a young boy who finds a baby Cheetah and after unseen circumstances must return the Cheetah back into the wild. The movie filmed in South Africa is beautifully scenic with many endangered animal scenes.

I urge you to learn about the animals, especially endangered ones and do what you can to increase their numbers. An excellent website to visit is Cheetah.org. They are doing wonderful things to conserve Cheetahs.
